Clinical Rotations

Rotation Descriptions

The following rotations comprise the typical fellow's clinical experience over the two years of training. The rotations assignments are staggered, with the exception of the research, which is largely contiguous.

 

Length Rotation Description
5 months Medical Intensive Care Unit Medical ICU rotation, primary care team for all MICU patients.
2 months Surgical Intensive Care Unit Surgical Critical Care/Trauma team rotation, primary care team for Trauma and Surgical CCM patients.
1 month Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Rotation with PICU team, the primary care team for all pediatric ICU patients
2 months OR Anesthesia Rotations on the Anesthesia service under supervision of an attending anesthesiologist
1 month Cardiovascular Surgery Rotation with the Cardiovascular Surgery Service, including pre-op, intra-op and post-op management.
1 month Neurosurgery Rotation with the Neurological Surgery Service, including pre-op, intra-op and post-op management.
1 month Non-invasive Cardiology Transthoracic echocardiography, experience in performing and interpreting studies
1 month Nutritional Support Service Rotation as team member of the Nutritional Support Service, a consult service for the ICUs and med/surg wards
1 month Bronchoscopy Rotation with Pulmonary Medicine bronchoscopy service
6 months Research Assignment to a mentor for research project, usually in a basic science research laboratory
3 months Electives/vacation Burn ICU, GI endoscopy, transfusion medicine, heart transplant service, diagnostic imaging, high-risk OB, or additional ICU rotations
