The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary referral center that provides advanced, comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for critically ill and injured children in a caring and comfortable environment. Experienced nurses, board-certified intensivists, and 24-hour physician coverage make the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit an unequaled facility in northern Louisiana.

Critical Care for Adults

Our Medical Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary referral intensive care unit that provides multidisciplinary care with 24-hour physician coverage to adults from throughout Louisiana with critical illnesses. Board-certified intensivists and intensivists-in-training provide state-of-the-art care and conduct research into the mechanisms and treatments for critical illnesses.

The mission of the Division of Critical Care Medicine of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport is to provide multidisciplinary patient care, education and research in critical care medicine. Responsibilities include delivery of patient care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a hospital-wide consult service, education of medical students and residents, training of fellows in Critical Care Medicine, operation of the Extracorporeal Life Support Service (including ECMO, CRRT and plasma therapies), and research into critical illness and injury.
